We had originally planned to do Chantal & Derek’s Fort Gibraltar Engagement Photos back in February, but the weather just wouldn’t cooperate. We love winter photos, but when the windchill makes it feel like it’s -40°C it makes it rather dangerous! So when we all had a weekend open, and the forecast called for -5°C we jumped on it!
We were excitedly surprised that the set up for Winnipeg’s Festival du Voyageur was still sort of up as it made for some super fun spots for us to shoot in! It was really awesome that there wasn’t any wind either!
Fort Gibraltar is such a great location as it sits on La Barrier Park which has some amazing walking trails along the Red River. The Fort itself is great too as it’s a photographer’s dream – texture, leading lines, and something for our couples to lean on!
Chantal and Derek initially said they felt awkward and didn’t know what to do, but after a few minutes walking and talking they just melted into being themselves! There was lots of laughing, lots of snuggles, which is perfect for a winter engagement!
Since the toboggan slide was still up, we were pumped when they said they’d give it a try. We hadn’t brought a toboggan with us, but as luck would have it there were a few lying around, probably left over from the Festival. SO.MUCH.FUN!!! We’re kinda sad we didn’t take a turn at it!
We then headed over to The Forks for some skating on the Red River Mutual Skating Trail. Both Chantal & Derek are hockey players so it was only fitting that we get them to put on their skates! We love it that they weren’t afraid to be a little goofy and little bit romantic! It didn’t matter that there were tons of other people out, they couldn’t stop staring at each other!
A few days after their session, we found out that they closed the skating trail for the season. Thank goodness we didn’t wait another week! Thanks guys for being you and having so much fun! We can’t wait for your wedding!
Chantal & Derek’s Engagement Video was super fun to make! How cute are they?!?
